Pilates for Menopause

Pilates for Menopause

A healthy lifestyle will help you feel better through any transitionary time in your life. And when it comes to menopause regular Pilates practice can do wonders for your physical body and mental health.

Strength training supports bone health and may help to prevent osteoporosis, which is a huge benefit as women go through menopause.

Pilates can be a perfect exercise for premenopausal and menopausal women. As we know Pilates is low-impact, but it helps increase flexibility and balance and improve muscle strength and tone. What’s not to love.

There is no better time to start

If you’re going through per-menopause or menopause and haven’t tried Pilates before or you haven’t practised for a while, don’t let that put you off. There is no better time to begin, and your body will thank you later.

Pelvic health issues

If you’re suffering from any pelvic health issues from menopause or other reasons, we highly recommend booking a 1-2-1 with pelvic health expert Claire Sparrow. You can view her Whole Body Pelvic Health method and her courses here.

Sarah Stonier on the Menopause

Hi, I’m Sarah, Pilates teacher at Chapel Allerton Pilates. Being a Fifty something Pilates teacher, I’m fully aware of what it’s like living with perimenopause and how it affects me physically and mentally. So I began to look at how Pilates can benefit me
moving forward.

It’s well-known how crucial weight-bearing work is to help with our bone density; the Pilates machines are an excellent way to accommodate this. Working with resistance helps with balance and stability, but it also helps maintain our connective tissue around the joints to help with all those little aches and pains and avoid injury. The breathing and subtle movements help me focus internally, too. Time for yourself is important to calm your mind and lift your mood.

Then one of the most critical factors for me is to be able to talk about it within classes or around the studio, around like-minded people, and being part of a community is priceless.

Sarah is planning a very special series of Pilates for Menopuase workshops in 2023 so watch this space.
